5 UCaaS Predictions for 2015

2014 saw Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) confirmed as a valuable and viable approach from small and mid-sized companies, to enterprise communications and even global corporations. In 2015, the UCaaS market is going to be even more vibrant and we expect to see its scope and scale continue to grow.

Here are five predictions for UCaaS in 2015:

Accelerating Growth

In both our business and our partners’ businesses, we have seen adoption of UCaaS rocket up in 2014. This will only continue in 2015 as more small to mid-sized enterprises embrace UCaaS and see their peers benefiting from cloud-based delivery models. Understanding and awareness is growing while the market is nowhere near saturation. The opex-driven model and low risk of deployment makes a strong business case for UCaaS and more and more businesses will make the move in 2015.

The Strength of the Channel

The IT channel (made up of Interconnects or VARs, and Managed Service Providers or MSPs) will only grow stronger in 2015. Enterprises of all sizes, especially SMBs, face a growing number of choices for IT software and services. Most businesses just want their IT services to work and they simply want their MSP or IT provider to make it work—clearly a massive channel opportunity. Channel partners are able to understand the customers’ needs or requirements and deliver the advice and solutions their customers need. In 2015, small to mid-sized enterprises will increasingly look to their channel partners to simplify their IT procurement and give them the right mix of solutions to serve their businesses.

An MSP’s World

Managed Service Providers (MSPs) had a tremendous amount of success in the UCaaS market in 2014. As more MSPs enter the space, they are recognizing that they already have a business model that matches UCaaS as well as the skills to sell and support these services. They have a customer base and recurring revenue model that makes the addition of unified communications to their product set quick and easy. There are no real barriers to entering the UCaaS market for MSPs and in 2015 more MSPs than ever will join the market.

The Interconnect Opportunity

Interconnects will be challenged to move quickly to tap the opportunity in UCaaS. More and more players are entering the unified communications space and interconnects will need to evaluate their business model and look at what kinds of services their customers want. Increasingly that means adding hosted communications services or hybrid solutions to their premises based offerings. In 2015, entrepreneurial interconnects will recognize the opportunity before other players move in on their market with UCaaS solutions.

This is Only the Beginning

UCaaS is really just the beginning of an even bigger opportunity in serving small to mid-sized enterprise demands with cloud-based delivery models. UCaaS has proven that enterprises will adopt hosted services and the scope of this opportunity will grow beyond just UCaaS. The fundamental value of the model will stay the same as new services are added in addition to UCaaS. In 2015, we’ll see this happen and channel partners and end users will benefit.
